Guennadi Mouzyka was born in Vladikavkaz, Russia. He studied double bass in Moscow with well-known teachers V. Shulepina, M. Fokin, G. Favorsky and E. Kolosov.

Guennadi Mouzyka started his career as Solo Bassist for the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in 1979. Upon graduation with honours from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory in 1982, he was a member of renowned Russian orchestras such as the USSR Ministry of Culture State Symphony Orchestra under G. Rozhdestvensky, and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra where he was Sub-Principal Double Bassist. With these orchestras, he travelled extensively, performing in many countries in Europe, America and Asia. He can be heard on many recordings on the Russian label, Melodiya. As a soloist, he has performed the concertos of Dittersdorf, Koussevitsky, Bottesini and Tubin.

Guennadi Mouzyka joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as Associate Principal Double Bass in 1992, and since 1994, has been its Principal Double Bass. He is also an active teacher for double bass with many youth orchestras.
